Pļavas muzejs

About the museum

The Pļavas muzejs is set up in an old building that once served as a school. The association “Ūdenszīmes” gave new life to the premises and the surroundings. The original exhibition is designed as a journey through a person's life in connection with nature and Latvian folk traditions; individual displays are devoted to sedges, protected plants and the plants of Latvia's natural meadows.

Latvian ethnography and the reading of signs can be explored by looking at the Kaldabruņas Māras josta (Māra sash of Kaldabruņa), while ancient healing and psychology are told about in “Vārdnieku Vainags”. A separate adventure is the multimedia exhibition “Pusnakts pļavā”, about traditions linked to events after nightfall. The grounds include a medicinal plant garden, plantings of protected plants, a picnic site and platforms in the trees.
