About the museum
At Tadenava, on 11 September 1865, the life path of the poet Rainis, also known as Jānis Pliekšāns, began in the bathhouse of the “Varslavāni” farmhouse. Jānis spent the first three and a half years of his life in the Tadenava half-manor built by his father, Krišjānis Pliekšāns. The museum has been dedicated to the poet since 1959.
The museum complex consists of the half-manor's residential house and a barn from the 1860s, the residential house of the “Dāboliņi” new farmstead established in the 1920s, as well as a bathhouse and a cellar. In the Pliekšāni family house there is an exhibition-game in which visitors get to know Rainis's literary heritage and childhood through interactive play.
