About the museum
The Rojas Jūras zvejniecības muzejs tells the story of fishing and life in Roja. The exhibition includes the story of the Soviet occupation period, when Roja was one of the richest collective farms in Latvia – the fishing collective farm “Banga”. Also on display are the exhibitions “Tā mēs te jūrkantē dzīvojām” (This Is How We Lived on the Coastal Strip) and “Kapteiņa istaba” (Captain's Room), as well as an exhibition on people who carried the name of Roja further in Latvia and the world.
In the museum's courtyard there is a landscaped outdoor area with a stage, where the Muzeju nakts (Museum Night), the Rudens tirgus (Autumn Market) and summer open-air concerts take place. Boats, anchors and a machine for sealing fish tins are displayed outdoors.
