About the museum
The Talsu novada muzejs (Talsi Municipal Museum) is housed in the town house of the barons von Firks, built in the late 19th century in the neoclassical style and known as the Villa Hochheim. The building stands on the highest hill of the town, the Tiguļu kalns (Tiguļi Hill), and the museum is surrounded by a dendrological park with more than 300 species of trees and shrubs, laid out already in the baron's time.
The modern exhibitions present historical, artistic and natural values: a Curonian archaeological collection, ethnographic material reflecting Latvian life at the end of the 19th century, and the story of the protected natural areas of the Talsi municipality. In the exhibition hall of the neighbouring storage building, the latest art exhibitions are shown.
