About the museum
In 2010 the first Angel Museum in Lithuania opened its doors in Anykščiai. Lithuanian art historian and theatre and culture figure Beatričė Kleizaitė-Vasaris donated her collection to it; it contains 109 angels – paintings, graphic works and Lithuanian folk art. Having donated the collection, she declared Anykščiai the City of Angels and began inviting artists to donate at least one work each to the museum.
The permanent exhibition shows works by laureates of the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize Leonas Strioga, Vladas Vildžiūnas and Leonardas Gutauskas, by painters Aloyzas Stasiulevičius, Vytautas Ignas, Jurga Ivanauskaitė, Filomena Linčiūtė-Vaitiekūnienė and other authors, and works by folk artists. The collection is being added to through the campaign “Dovanok muziejui angelą” (Donate an Angel to the Museum) and through the plein-air sessions of angel makers held since 2011. There are also exhibits donated by embassies of foreign countries. The museum belongs to the Anykščiai Arts Centre.
