About the museum
In 1995 the Vabalninkas Culture and History Foundation set up a small museum in the town, which at the end of 2005 became a branch of the Biržų krašto muziejus “Sėla”. Until 2010 it was run by one of the founders of the foundation. In 2017 new premises were opened that meet modern museum requirements.
Under a project partly financed by the National Paying Agency, an interactive and emotionally engaging exhibition, “In the Story of One House – Turning Points in 20th-Century Lithuanian History”, was set up in the basement of the building. It presents painful stages of the history of the Vabalninkas region and the history of the building itself. The branch runs the projects “Histories of Vabalninkas Street Houses” and “Commemorating the Jewish History of Vabalninkas”: an information board about the town's Jews is used in tours and lessons, and buildings that once belonged to the Jewish community are marked with memorial signs.
