About the museum

The town council decided to set up the Druskininkai Town Museum in 1997, and on 26 May 1999 the Ministry of Culture registered it. On 15 October 2000 the first permanent exhibition was opened to visitors, and around 2003 coherent exhibitions on the history of Druskininkai began to be developed.

In 2012–2013 the building was reconstructed, and on 28 September 2013 the museum reopened.

The museum collects, preserves and studies items from the history of Druskininkai: postcards with views of Druskininkai, objects bearing the Druskininkai signature (for example mineral water bottles and household items), the photograph collections of Bronislovas Piłsudskis and Algimantas Kubilius, a collection of paintings by Lithuanian émigré artists, and works from the plein-air events “M. K. Čiurlionio dienos” (M. K. Čiurlionis Days). A gallery where art exhibitions are held operates next to the museum.
