The museum is a branch of the Vilniaus Gaono žydų istorijos muziejus (Vilnius Gaon Museum of Jewish History). It opened to visitors on 17 April 2026, marking the 135th anniversary of the birth of Ž. Lipšicas. The permanent exhibition was financed by the Lithuanian state and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania; the project partners were Druskininkai municipality and the Druskininkai Rotary Club “Sūrutis”.
