About the museum
In the vicinity of Kvėdarna, in Lembas village, is the birthplace of the Catholic priest and researcher of the Lithuanian language Kazimieras Jaunius. He studied the connections of the Lithuanian language with other Indo-European languages, systematised the dialects, described the pitch accents (priegaidės) and created new grammatical terms; in 1891 he prepared and published a grammar of the Lithuanian language.
After the restoration of independence, a memorial museum began to be created on Jaunius’s homestead: a granary and a farm building were restored, and an ethnographic exhibition was installed. The museum recreates the atmosphere of Jaunius’s time and of his homestead. It is a branch of the Šilalės Vlado Statkevičiaus muziejus (Šilalė Vladas Statkevičius Museum).
