About the museum
The Stultiškiai windmill was built in 1880. After it stopped grinding grain, it was for some time abandoned and, in Soviet times, turned into a warehouse. After independence was restored, the miller's relatives wanted to reclaim it; later the building was bought by Panevėžys District Municipality, and in 1996 the Linų muziejus was set up in it. On the ground floor are displayed the tools needed to process flax and a seeder with a drum.
In the educational programme “Lino kelias” (The Flax Route), the museum worker shows how flax is beaten, broken and combed. Visitors can themselves pull the flax heads off the stalks, beat the flax with beating tools (mintuvai), clean the shives with a brake (brauktuvė) and comb the fibres with various combs.
