About the museum
The poet Jonas Mačiulis-Maironis (1862–1932) spent his childhood here, in Pagojukai eldership. At Pasandravys the foundations of the family manor, a well with a stone lining and a rebuilt stone-masonry outbuilding have survived; at Bernotai there is an old orchard, a pine tree from the poet's youth and an old ice house. A small museum has been set up in the poet's sister's homestead.
Between Bernotai and Pasandravys a footpath was laid out in 1987, planted with an oak alley about one kilometre long. In the area stand eleven crosses and chapels carved in 1991, as well as the art objects “Pasandravio dvaras” (“Pasandravys Manor”) and “Maironio tėvų namai” (“Maironis's Parents' Home”); in the barns, video projections recall the former views and the poet's verses.
