About the museum

The Betygalos muziejus was founded in 1986 and is now a structural unit of the Raseinių krašto istorijos muziejus. It is located in Vytauto gatvė in Betygala, Raseiniai district. An information board of the Dubysa Regional Park and an oak sculpture created at a sculptors' plein-air event stand next to the museum building.

The museum has two exhibitions. The Betygala history exhibition honours notable local people: the graphic artist Jonas Kuzminskis, the wood carver Juozas Grabauskas, the priest and painter Pranas Šniukšta, the poet Juozas Nekrošius and the writer Jonas Mačiukevičius. Sculptures and metalwork by local craftsmen are also displayed here.

The geology exhibition was created by the geographer and museum worker Marijona Birutė Navakauskienė, who had begun collecting stones and minerals while at school. The collection consists of about 1800 minerals, rocks, fossils and shells from all over the world, as well as specimens from outcrops in the surroundings of Betygala. This exhibition is also used for educational sessions, in which children and adults learn about geology, the history and the traditions of the region.
