About the museum
The Cvirka family farmstead in Klangiai was begun in the early 20th century; it was built by the writer Petras Cvirka's father, Kazimieras. In 1912, when the village was being divided into individual farmsteads, the family moved to its present site. The writer lived here from 1912 to 1922 and later came to his native village as a guest. He described his village in the essay “Mano kaimas” (“My Village”).
After the war, around 1956, a memorial museum was set up here, and the residential house was rebuilt in 1950–1951. The farmstead was restored in 1978–1981 and is a cultural monument of regional importance, entered in the Register of Cultural Property. Of the four buildings, the residential house, a cattle shed and a granary have survived; the old threshing barn collapsed in 1994. There is a well in the yard and an orchard of fruit trees around it.
On 22 December 2022 the branch of the Jurbarkas Regional Museum, known as the Petro Cvirkos memorialinė sodyba (Petras Cvirka Memorial Farmstead), was renamed the Klangių etnografinė sodyba (Klangiai Ethnographic Farmstead). It displays the family's furniture, household utensils and farm tools, and an ethnographic exhibition of the Veliuona region. Klangiai is near Veliuona – an urban heritage monument and historic landscape reserve, included in the cultural tourism route “Valdovų keliu” (“The Royal Road”).
