About the museum
The museum is housed in the building that was the NKVD headquarters in Soviet times: cells were in the basement and interrogations took place on the upper floors. Today it tells of deportation, prisons and camps, the life of the region's partisans and the sufferings of resisters.
In the interactive interrogation room visitors can experience an interrogation situation themselves. In the museum spaces a partisan bunker-hideout has been built, an authentic instructional NKVD film about the search for partisan hideouts is shown, and there are holograms. The Sąjūdis exhibition recalls events important for Tauragė and for the state when the Soviet Union collapsed.
The museum is a branch of the Tauragės krašto muziejus “Santaka”. A guide service can be booked in advance.
