About the museum
The Alfonso Čepausko dailės galerija (Alfonsas Čepauskas Art Gallery) is housed in the premises of Skaudvilė Gymnasium and is a branch of the Tauragė Regional Museum “Santaka”. The permanent exhibition shows the artist’s sheet and small-format graphic prints, illustrations, ex libris, chamber sculptures in wood and metal, miniature stone sculptures, sketches and paintings.
The epic graphic cycles reveal the everyday life of the Samogitian people and their struggle for freedom and survival in the Middle Ages; the allegorical-philosophical cycles show the path of human life, the relationship between humans and nature, and interpretations of mythology and legends. Sketches, paintings and photo-collage works convey impressions of journeys to distant lands.
Alfonsas Čepauskas took part in about 300 joint exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad and held more than 50 solo exhibitions; his works are in museums in Lithuania and abroad and in private collections.
