About the museum
The Espace muséologique is a small museum in the village of Lasauvage and belongs to Minett Park Fond-de-Gras. It is housed in a former priory that belonged to the counts of Saintignon; the count was a master blacksmith in Lasauvage and a significant industrialist in Longwy.
The museum is devoted to the history of the village. Lasauvage had one of Luxembourg’s oldest ironworks: a forge was set up there around 1625, because iron ore, timber from the surrounding forests and the water of the Crosnière were available. Iron-ore mining lasted from the end of the 19th century until 1978.
Another focus is the Second World War: a life-size reconstruction tells the story of young Luxembourgers who hid in a tunnel near Niederkorn, the Honsbësch (Hondsbësch) gallery, so as not to have to wear the Wehrmacht uniform. The building opens on Minett Park operating days, with free admission.
