About the museum

Andøymuseet lies by the sea at Andenes, beside Andenes lighthouse, and tells the story of the fishing village and its people over some 1,500 years. The museum has an exhibition on polar regions with the hunter Hilmar Nøis at the centre, an exhibition on the geology of Andøya and a small exhibition on the historic Pomor trade between Russia and Vesterålen.

With a ticket from the museum, visitors can climb Andenes lighthouse, a 40-metre-high cast-iron tower from 1859. In addition, a guided historical walk through old Andenes is offered. The museum has a souvenir shop and a café, and the artwork “Øymuseet” is part of Skulpturlandskap Nordland (Nordland Sculpture Landscape). Andøymuseet also includes a small open-air museum at Risøyhamn. The museum is part of Museum Nord.
