About the museum
Bagn Bygdesamling began in 1920 as a farm museum founded by Olaus Islandsmoen, who gave it to the local community in 1939. The collection grew considerably over time. Today the museum is located in the village of Dølven, about four kilometres south of Bagn in Sør-Aurdal, and is part of Valdresmusea.
On the grounds stand around 18 houses, including an administration building, with permanent exhibitions, a photo collection, private archives and a couple of thousand objects collected from farms and places in the local area. The objects relate to farm life, textiles, clothing, furniture, crafts, hunting and fishing, music and schooling.
There are separate exhibitions on the composer Sigurd Islandsmoen and the writer Mikkjel Fønhus, and an exhibition on the battles in Bagn in 1940. The museum also has permanent exhibitions at Bagnsbergatn, a protected war memorial site.
