About the museum
Beiarn bygdetun lies at the rectory from 1857 at Dokkmo and has twelve farm buildings from the 1700s and 1800s. When Beiarn became a parish of its own in 1853, the community also needed a rectory, and the elected council placed it by the river at Dokkmo. The former tenants on the site became cotters (husmenn) under the priest, and the old houses were rebuilt as outbuildings. Fourteen priests' families have lived at the farm, and the last was parish priest (sogneprest) Leif Sjølie and his family in the years 1967–1974.
The core of the collection comes from Gustav Moldjord, who at the age of eighteen began to collect old objects from Beiarn and carried them in a small cart. The collection today consists of 166 objects and tells of Beiarn's cultural history and of a young enthusiast who wanted to preserve the past. Among the objects is a salmodikon (zither) from around 1880.
The exhibition “Det var en gang…” takes visitors into living traditions and traditional knowledge through music, storytelling and traditional crafts. In the farmyard there is also an A-Ford veteran car from 1930, known as the Rønnåbakk-Forden, which is used on special occasions in the summer season. In the season there is simple refreshment service and a museum shop, and in the museum garden you can take a break with your own barbecue food.
