About the museum
Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum opened a branch in Bodø, in the middle of the town centre, on 25 February 2025 in the historic savings bank building from 1949 at Storgata 40. The building was converted into a museum through a major rebuilding. With the branch, Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, which also has visitor sites in Tromsø and Longyearbyen, has strengthened its presence in Northern Norway.
The museum will be open and inclusive to everyone, and shows both historical art and contemporary art. The collection of Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum comprises 2,225 works by artists from the 17th century to the present day, with a growing share of Sámi artists (dáiddárer) and duodji craftspeople (duojárer). The Bodø branch has exhibition halls, a museum shop, a café and a banquet hall (festsal), which is used for lectures, artist talks and workshops and can be rented for events.
