About the museum
Dalane Folkemuseum is the regional museum for Dalane and was founded in 1910. The Slettebø department near Egersund was originally the country seat of district judge (sorenskriver) Christian Feyer, with a main building, a farm manager's house and a carriage shed from the 1850s, as well as a summer pavilion (lysthus) from the 1830s that stands in the museum garden.
In the main house there are period displays that show the history of style from the 18th and 19th centuries and give a picture of everyday life for both the official class and the farming class. Hidden in nooks and corners are cultural-historical treasures such as old silver jewellery and church art. Particularly well known is the collection of stove plates and stoves from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The craft department has workshops for several crafts, among them spinning-wheel maker (rokkemaker), clockmaker (urmaker), comb maker (kammaker), cooper (bøkker), joiner (snekker) and clog maker (treskomaker). In the agricultural department farm tools and vehicles from the 1800s are on display, and the schoolhouse from the 1890s gives an insight into how teaching took place. The main house and the schoolroom are open for guided tours.
