About the museum
Egersund Fayancemuseum shows the history of Egersund Fayancefabrik, which was started in 1847 under the name Egersunds Potteri. The founder, Johan Feyer, had learned the potter's trade in Newcastle upon Tyne, and the factory quickly became Norway's largest producer of stoneware. For 132 years it supplied tableware for everyday use and for celebrations.
When the factory closed in 1979, Dalane Folkemuseum took over the archive and the object collection, and this became the core of the museum, which was established in 1986. In 2010 the museum moved into new premises at Fabrikkgaten 2, where the old factory had been.
The exhibitions show a selection of objects from the production and tell how the faience factory was a cornerstone of the town of Egersund. The museum also offers guided tours and creative activities such as “Lek med leire” (Playing with Clay) and decals (dekaler), and there is a shop at the reception.
