About the museum

Steffågarden is an old coastal cottager's house (strandsitterhus) on Husøya on Ona. A strandsitter leased a small plot but owned the house he built on it, and the livelihood was usually tied to the sea. The house was built in 1793, and today it is a museum where visitors get a good impression of how people lived on the coast in earlier times.

The museum is a branch of Romsdalsmuseet. Ona is known for Ona lighthouse (Ona fyr) from 1865, which stands on the island's highest point, but it also has a small summer café, two pottery workshops, a handicraft shop, a chapel and a long white sandy beach.

Admission & discounts

Admission is free.

Free admission to the building. Guided tours cost NOK 170 for adults, NOK 140 for concessions (honnør) and students, and NOK 70 for young people aged 12–18; children aged 0–11 enter free but must be accompanied by an adult. Guided tours must be booked in advance.
