About the museum
Gamle Samvirkelaget lies idyllically by the fjord in the old premises of Velfjord Samvirkelag in Hommelstø. The exhibition “Drivkraft/Juhtiehtidh” opened in December 2021 and can be seen all year. It shows South Sámi cultural heritage, fearless and innovative personalities, myths and phenomena, and connects Velfjord to the world and the world to Velfjord.
The museum offers events, exhibitions, a shop and a café throughout the year, and visitors can take a closer look at “den mystiske sekken” (the mysterious sack). A South Sámi exhibition that was previously at Minnetun has been moved here. A few kilometres away, at Strøm, lies Minnetun, the cradle of Velfjord bygdemuseum (rural museum). Gamle Samvirkelaget is part of Helgeland Museum.
