About the museum

Grong bygdemuseum lies at Bergsmo, six kilometres from Grong town centre, with a signposted turn-off from county road 760. The museum is a typical local history museum with traditional buildings from the farms of the district: Bergsmolåna, Ferjemannstu, stabbur (storehouse), bakerhus (bakehouse), smithy and a boat-building workshop.

Bergsmolåna, the main building of the farm, was erected in 1833 and shows how a farm in Grong was furnished and equipped in earlier times. The house has also been used as a schoolroom, an office for the national insurance fund (trygdekasse), an electricity works, a sickroom and a posting station (skysstasjon), and the district doctors lived at the farm from 1901 to 1952.

In 1988 the municipality bought Gudmund Mælen's collections of about 300 objects, and the museum now has about 1,030 registered objects. A stabbur came in 1986, Ferjemannstu was moved to the museum grounds in 1989, the bakehouse was built in 1990 and the smithy in summer 1993. The museum holds Bygdadagen (Rural Community Day), usually on the first Saturday in September, and Julsjau (a Christmas event) in December.

Bergsmolåna og museumsbygningene – The main building from 1833 is furnished as a farm in Grong in former times, with furniture, household goods, implements and tools. The bakehouse and smithy also stand on the site.
