About the museum
Halle mølle lies at the outlet of Hallevannet in Brunlanes in Larvik. The area has several restored buildings, and here you can see traces of activity many hundreds of years old. The farmstead consists of the Møllerstua, the old main house from 1749, the mill building from 1880, a forge from 1850, the sawmill manager’s house and three outbuildings.
Brunlanes Historielag (local history society) bought Halle mølle in 1982, and the museum today is filled with the society’s collection of objects that tell of the district’s former livelihoods and other history. Each summer there are mill days (mølledager) with exhibitions, sales of craft goods, artistic performances and lectures, and visitors can buy rømmegrøt (sour-cream porridge), saft (cordial), coffee and waffles. The society and volunteers maintain the property through dugnad (voluntary work), including a new bridge over the outflow from the old turbine.
