About the museum

Heddal bygdetun shows everyday rural life in the 19th century through a collection of old farm buildings. The best-known house is Rambergstugo, where the rose painting was made by Olav Hansson in 1784.

The rural heritage farmstead lies right beside Heddal stave church (stavkirke) and in 2010 became part of Norsk Industriarbeidermuseum, which runs the site today.

The exhibitions cover folk music, woodcarving and folk costumes. In summer 2026, measurements of the indoor environment in Rambergstua are being carried out, because the decorative wall paint contains a lot of lead; preliminary measurements in June 2026 indicate that it is safe to be in the building.
