About the museum
Telemark Kunstmuseum is part of Norsk Industriarbeidermuseum (NIA) (Norwegian Industrial Workers' Museum) and serves as the regional art museum for Telemark. The museum is in Notodden, in an industrial hall from the previous century, in the same building as the World Heritage Centre for the Rjukan–Notodden industrial heritage (Verdensarvsenteret for Rjukan–Notodden industriarv).
The museum combines historical exhibitions with art from the Norwegian Golden Age and shared industrial history with current contemporary art by recognised artists. The region's art and cultural heritage has national value, and the museum is also a venue for lectures, concerts and other events.
The tickets give access to both the art exhibitions and the World Heritage Centre in Notodden, which tells how Kristian Birkeland and Sam Eyde created the industrial adventure that laid the foundation for the towns of Rjukan and Notodden. The museum has a café and a museum shop, and it offers guided tours and family activities such as “Kunst med Kids” (Art with Kids).
