About the museum
Kirsten Flagstad Museum is located in Strandstuen in Hamar, the house where the opera singer was born on 12 July 1895, close to the church where she was baptised. As an international opera star she spent much of her life travelling, with hotel rooms as her home, and she chose her home town of Hamar as the place where she had her roots.
The memorial collection opened to the public in 1985, and the Minister of Culture officially opened it on Flagstad's 90th birthday. Family, friends and the Flagstad Society (Flagstadselskapet) have contributed gifts and deposits of objects, pictures and archive material. The square in front of the museum is called Kirsten Flagstads plass, and in front of the entrance door stands a bust of her by Joseph Grimeland. In 1999 the collection was transferred to Hedmarksmuseet and Domkirkeodden, and today the museum is part of Anno museum.
At the museum, visitors can see costumes, paintings, portraits and objects connected with Flagstad's life and career. In the smithy (Smia) next to Strandstuen there are offices, a small concert room and a large archive, and the Hall of Fame shows other Norwegian opera singers with international careers.

From Hamar station it is a short walk through the town centre to the museum, which lies next to Hamar domkirke (Hamar Cathedral).
