About the museum
Klevfos industrial museum opened in 1986 and tells of a hard life, both for the workers and for their families. The museum consists of a complete paper mill as it was when operations ceased in 1976, with workers' housing, manager's housing, a dam installation, smithy and workshop. Klevfos Cellulose & Papirfabrikk was one of the country's smallest paper mills and was in operation from 1888 to 1976.
On the site are, among others, Hasselbakken, the manager's house used for rental and courses, and Klevfosboligen, a timber building with rendered walls that was moved from Tofsrud in Løten in the early 1890s and had six to eight flats for employees. Two of the flats are open to the public. Skjærdal, the staff house from 1919–1920, is now used for offices and museum administration.
In Munchsenteret, which opened at Klevfos in June 2012 in cooperation with Løten municipality, visitors can learn about Edvard Munch's childhood and his connection with Løten and see early drawings from Hedemarken. Munch was born on 12 December 1863 at Engelaug Østre at Ådalsbruk, close to the museum. The museum is run as part of Anno museum and also has a new Munch path, a playground and a large outdoor area.
