About the museum
KNM Narvik (F304) was built in 1964 at Marinens Hovedverft (the Navy’s main dockyard) in Horten and launched on 8 January 1965. The frigate belonged to the Oslo class and entered service on 30 November 1966. It was the last ship of the class still in operation and was succeeded by the Fridtjof Nansen class. The ship took part in NATO’s Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean in 2001, 2002 and 2004, and was modernised between 1987 and 1990.
The frigate was decommissioned on 12 June 2007 and handed over to Stiftelsen KNM Narvik at Karljohansvern in Horten. The ship opened as a floating museum on 30 November 2016. Since then the foundation has operated the vessel as a museum ship, offering guided tours and refreshments for groups.
