About the museum
The Aluminium Museum opened on 21 June 2002 in connection with Holmestrand's 250th anniversary. The museum is housed in a former Hydro factory building, where traces of industrial use are still visible.
The museum has its roots in 1919, when A/S Nordisk Aluminiumindustri began production in Holmestrand. The company was the first in Norway to process raw aluminium into both semi-finished and finished products. The factory was later owned by Årdal og Sunndal verk from 1967 and by Hydro from 1986. Today the factory mainly makes semi-finished products, largely from recycled aluminium.
The exhibitions show the company's products and development, including the kitchen equipment under the HØYANG brand that many Norwegian households knew, and the struggle for better working conditions, the environment, health and social welfare schemes.
