About the museum
The Marinemuseet was established in 1853, when Commander Christian Fredrik Klinck handed his private collection over to the Navy. Since 1864 the exhibitions have been housed in Magasin A, one of the older storehouse buildings at the former naval dockyard Karljohansvern in Horten.
The collection comprises ship models, uniforms, weapons, navigational equipment, charts, photographs and archive material. Outdoors, visitors can see the submarine KNM Utstein from 1965 and the motor torpedo boat KNM Blink, both of which belong to the museum.
From 1978 the museum was subordinate to the Chief of Defence, and from 2025 it has been part of the Forsvarshistorisk museum. The building is shared with Preus museum and Besøkssenter Oslofjorden.
