About the museum
Vefsn bygdetun was established in 1909 and is regarded as one of the region's oldest rural heritage farmsteads. It lies right by Dolstad church and gives insight into the local building heritage from the 17th century up to the industrialisation of Mosjøen. The buildings are filled with objects that show the everyday life of earlier generations.
Building conservation workers maintain the houses on the farmstead; the façade of Rynesstua, a dwelling house from the 1790s, has recently been restored, for example. In the summer season there is a café with cakes, waffles, coffee, fruit squash and ice cream, and activities are offered for children and families, for example building one's own small log house (minihus).
A small path leads from the farmstead to the church site at Dolstad, where a church is believed to have stood as early as the 12th century. The present church from 1735 is the only octagonal cross-church in Northern Norway. The farmstead is part of Vefsn museum within Helgeland Museum.
