About the museum
Leirfjord museum is housed in Bergh-brygga on Nedre-Leland, an old trading house where time has stood still. In the shop premises the original interior and part of the range of goods from several decades have been preserved, and in the old storerooms exhibitions with cultural-historical content are shown throughout the museum year.
Bergh-brygga was a trading place as early as 1847, possibly earlier, but it burned several times, most recently in 1898. The present building was erected in 1900. Aslaug and Johan Bergh owned and ran the shop until 1985, and in 1987 they gave the quay to Leirfjord Folkeminnelag (Leirfjord folk heritage society).
The museum also includes Gammelskolen (the old school) on Leland from 1884, with a classroom and teacher’s house, which opens on request, as well as the kvernhus (mill house) in Meisfjord and some quay and boathouse buildings on Reines that can be seen from outside. The museum is part of Helgeland Museum.
