About the museum
Hemnes bygdetun is situated at Lillebjerka (Nergarden), a farm mentioned in tax records from 1610 and probably older still. The oldest building on the farmstead is the main farmhouse from around 1750, with carvings in the finstua (best parlour). Several buildings have been moved to the original farm complex to complete the farmstead.
There are environmental exhibitions in four buildings: the main house, the storehouse (stabbur), the eldhus and Emilie-stua. Emilie-stua was moved from Leirskardalen and gives an insight into what it was like to be poor about 160 years ago. Outdoors, the exhibition on Folgerø's voyage across the Atlantic shows the clinker-built sailing boat Leif Erikson, which was built in Leirskardal and sailed to the USA a hundred years ago.
The farmstead has regular annual events, including celebrations on 6 February and 17 May, guided tours in the summer season and a Christmas market in November. In the summer season kamkake pastries are baked here. Three historic buildings at Hemnesberget can be opened on request. The farmstead is a department of Helgeland Museum.
