About the museum
Nesna museum is housed in the Zahl house, the old commercial building of the Zahl family, who ran a business here for most of the 20th century. The building was also home to the family, servants and employees. The oldest part dates from 1907, and the extension where the museum exhibitions are now was built in the early 1950s. The post hatch (Postluka) is still part of the building.
The permanent exhibitions show objects from trade, household, farming, fishing and side occupations (attåtnæringer), as well as domestic handicrafts and crafts. Nesna is also known for education, and for the Nesnalobben, the felt shoe that was produced in Nesna from 1955 for fifty years; a separate exhibition is devoted to the history of the shoe.
Nesna municipality bought the building in 2006, and the museum opened in the old premises in 2007. There are changing temporary exhibitions and a museum shop, and a few times a year museum Saturdays with café are held. The museum is a branch of Helgeland Museum.
