About the museum
The Centre for Education and History of the Warsaw Fire Brigade is located at ul. Marcinkowskiego 2 in Praga-Północ, in a historic building erected in 1878 for the barracks of the Warsaw Fire Brigade. In recent years the building was thoroughly renovated, and the 30-metre tower and garage were rebuilt. Next to it, Rescue and Firefighting Unit No. 5 of the Warsaw Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service continues to operate.
The centre is a non-commercial venture aimed at organised groups; its activities are supervised by the Organisational Department of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service. On two floors with a total area of about 1,000 m², 15 exhibitions have been set up, showing the history of the Warsaw fire brigade from its founding to modern rescue operations. Visitors see historic fire engines and equipment, a restored forge and stable, and interactive presentations.
An educational trail is integrated into the whole, designed to shape proper attitudes and behaviour towards threats to life, health, property and the environment. In the rooms visitors encounter effects such as loud sounds, changing light and theatrical smoke. Classes are free of charge and take place after prior registration; the centre is usually opened to individuals during the Museum Night.
