About the museum
The Muzeum Fabryka Czekolady E.Wedel was created on the initiative of employees of Wedel, which belongs to the company Lotte Wedel, and forms part of the oldest chocolate factory in Poland. It opened on 4 September 2024, International Chocolate Day. The museum tells the story of chocolate and the Wedel family, and at the same time shows the production process from the cocoa bean to the finished bar.
The museum occupies a revitalised building from the 1960s, in which cocoa beans were stored and processed for decades. The building has a floor area of more than 8,000 square metres, six storeys above ground and one below, and its façade resembles chocolate blocks. Parts of the former silos have been incorporated into the new structure, and from the terrace on the sixth floor there is a view of Park Skaryszewski, Stadion Narodowy and the Warsaw skyline.
The exhibition is not like a classic museum display: visitors can touch things, operate machines and taste, and they are shown around by guides in scheduled groups. On selected days they can also watch production. Some Wedel products are still made on production lines in the building, and there is also a laboratory. Besides guided visits, the museum runs chocolate workshops and birthday parties for children and adults, and it hires out space for events.
