About the museum
The Centrum Kulturowo-Archeologiczne in Nowa Słupia was built in 2010–2011 with funds from the European Regional Development Fund under the regional operational programme of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. It opened on 20 August 2011 during the Dymarki Świętokrzyskie festival, and the Centrum Słowian i Wikingów from Wolin was among those who helped with the construction.
The park covers more than four hectares along a stream that rises at the foot of Łysa Góra. Eleven structures typical of barbarian and Roman building have been reconstructed here: pit dwellings and huts, a forge, the hut of a fisherman and a weaver, the so-called long house, an iron ore mine, a sauna, iron smelting furnaces (dymarki) and pottery kilns, a fragment of a Roman camp with a reconstruction of Hadrian’s Wall and a tower, and the “Święty gaj” (Sacred Grove). All the buildings were erected using techniques from two thousand years ago, without nails.
The centre hosts demonstrations of ancient mining, iron smelting and pottery, as well as crafts such as blacksmithing, weaving and carpentry, and living history lessons. The site is seasonal and open from May to October; the Dymarki Świętokrzyskie festival takes place there every August. Information about the centre is currently published by the Muzeum Starożytnego Hutnictwa Świętokrzyskiego.
