About the museum
The Classicist larch-wood manor house was built at the end of the 18th century on the grounds of the Firlejowszczyzna farm near Lublin. In 1804–1810 the estate belonged to Franciszek Ksawery Pol, the father of Wincenty Pol. The building stood on its original site until 1969, when it was moved to the present site at ul. Kalinowszczyzna 13 as the first object of a planned open-air museum. Today the manor house at this location is a reconstruction, but its architecture and interiors illustrate well the typical Polish manor house.
The museum devoted to the poet and geographer opened on 2 December 1972, on the 100th anniversary of Wincenty Pol’s death. After the Muzeum Wsi Lubelskiej moved out in 1977, the manor house was handed over to the District Museum in Lublin, and in 1990–1994 the building was given a cellar, which provided additional rooms.
The permanent exhibition occupies two vestibules and three ground-floor rooms. It combines period furnishings with a biographical account of Wincenty Pol: his life, travels, literary work and scholarly writings, set against the background of 19th-century history in Poland and Europe. Temporary exhibitions are shown on the lower floor. The manor house is a branch of the National Museum in Lublin.
