Muzeum Narodowe w Lublinie

Museum in the Lublin Castle with the Holy Trinity Chapel, a gallery of Polish painting, the folk art of the region and an observation tower.

Opening hoursAdmission 20 zł Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The beginnings of museum activity in Lublin are linked to Hieronim Łopaciński, who campaigned for the protection of local monuments at the start of the 20th century. The museum was solemnly opened on 12 December 1906, and in 1914 the Lublin Museum Society was founded, which gathered the collections of scientific and regional societies. During the Second World War the collections suffered enormous losses; after the liberation of Lublin in 1944 activity was resumed, and in 1950 the institution was nationalised as a regional museum.

The seat of the museum is the Lublin Castle on the hill in the centre of the town. In the castle interiors, permanent exhibitions are presented, including a gallery of Polish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries, an exhibition of folk art of the Lublin region, and an exhibition devoted to the Crown Tribunal. Visitors can also enter the Holy Trinity Chapel and climb the castle tower (donjon) with its observation terrace.

The National Museum in Lublin runs numerous branches in Lublin and the region, including the Dworek Wincentego Pola, the Muzeum Martyrologii “Pod Zegarem” and the Muzeum Historii Miasta Lublina w Bramie Krakowskiej. Audio descriptions, tactile plans and induction loops are provided for people with disabilities.
