About the museum
The church complex in Radruż is one of the oldest and most complete wooden religious ensembles in Poland. Since 2013 the Church of St Paraskeva has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in 2017 it was recognised as a monument of history. The village of Radruż was first mentioned in 1444. The present church was most probably built in the early eighties of the 16th century, as confirmed by dendrochronological research carried out by the National Heritage Institute in 2023. It replaced an older temple, known from records from the first third of the 16th century.
The church has a log construction, a tripartite layout (babiniec, the women’s section, nave and presbytery) and an almost cubic form with a large dome above the nave. The walls are covered with wooden shingles, and heavy roofs are supported by wide soboty (lateral extensions). Inside, a polychromy from 1648 has survived, as well as traces of an iconostasis made from the forties of the 17th century until 1756. Next to it stands a wooden bell tower, probably from the 18th century, and within the walls there are also the Dom Diaka (former mortuary) and the churchyard cemetery.
After the Second World War the village was divided, and most of its inhabitants were resettled. The church was renovated in the mid-1960s, and its furnishings were moved to a storehouse in Łańcut. Since 2010 the complex has been looked after by the Muzeum Kresów in Lubaczów, which secured the monument, equipped it with alarm and fire-protection systems, and renovated the former shop, in which a museum building with a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions was set up.
