About the museum
The Local Heritage Room in Śliwnica was founded at the beginning of the 1990s on the initiative of Danuta Śliwińska, who wanted to save from oblivion the history held in handicrafts and old everyday objects. The room was set up in a former school building dating from the Austrian partition period. In 1994 the collection received the official title of Izba Regionalna (local heritage room).
Thanks to gifts from residents of the Gmina Dubiecko and the surrounding area, the collection now numbers more than a thousand exhibits, which fill two classrooms. Visitors can see tools of trades such as carpentry, shoemaking, blacksmithing, cooperage, weaving, baking, dairy work and pottery, as well as old farm tools, educational items from the interwar period and works by local artists. Particularly notable acquisitions are looms, hand mills and a threshing machine.
The room has two educational trails, one on baking and one on weaving. The weaving trail was the basis for the weaving workshops “Od ziarenka do płócienka” (From Grain to Linen), organised in 2008. School excursions and tourists visit the room, and Danuta Śliwińska has been its curator and guide from the outset.
