About the museum

The Muzeum Parafialne w Pruchniku (Parish Museum in Pruchnik) is housed in a former organist's house from 1890, a wooden building of log construction on a high plinth of stone and brick, with a corner arcade on carved columns. When the building ceased to serve its original function, it was used as a store for tools for the upkeep of the church.

The museum was founded in 1994 on the initiative of the parish priest, Father Kazimierz Trelka. The exhibits – household items, manuscripts, books and documents – were brought by residents, and some were tracked down and collected by the priest himself. The exhibition comprises two small rooms. The first displays historic furnishings and documents relating to Pruchnik and its surroundings, including the “Gazeta Niedzielna” (Sunday Gazette) from 1908, a police document from 1796, a ceiling beam from 1682, fragments of meteorites found in Pruchnik, a mould for Easter cakes and a wooden turoń (a traditional carnival figure).

The second room is devoted to the memory of Blessed Father Bronisław Markiewicz, founder of the Congregation of the Michalites, who was associated with Pruchnik.
