About the museum

Krasiczyn Castle was built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries for Stanisław Krasicki, castellan of Przemyśl, and was extended by his son Marcin Krasicki. The residence has four corner towers and an arcaded courtyard with sgraffito depicting biblical scenes, medallions of Polish kings and emperors, and hunting scenes. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance-Mannerist architecture in Europe.

After the invasion of 1726 the castle was rebuilt, and in 1834 the Sapieha family bought it; they owned it until 1939. Damage from a fire in 1852 was repaired, and after the First World War the restoration was led by the architect Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz. After the Second World War a forestry school was housed in the castle, and from the seventies it was looked after by the Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych (Passenger Car Factory). Since 2018 the complex has been a monument of history.

Today the complex houses a hotel, a restaurant and a café, and visits to the castle are guided. The route leads through the courtyard, the crypt in Baszta Boża, the hunting room, the chapel of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the exhibition halls. Separately you can visit the Wieża Zegarowa (Clock Tower) and the dungeons with a torture chamber, and stroll through the park.
