About the museum

The idea of setting up a regional room emerged in the 1980s among members of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Goślińskiej (Society of Friends of the Goślina Land). In 1988 the City and Gmina National Council decided to establish it, and the institution opened in May 1989 in the building of the public library.

In November 1996 a fire destroyed the roof of the building that housed the room. No exhibits were damaged, and the collections were moved to rooms behind the town hall. In the following years the room changed premises; in 2008, for example, it occupied the first floor of the town hall annex. Today, as a unit of the Miejsko-Gminny Ośrodek Kultury i Rekreacji (Municipal and Gmina Centre for Culture and Recreation), it is located at ul. Mściszewska 10, in the building of Primary School No. 1.

The collection concerns local history and was built up mainly from donations and deposits from residents of the town and surroundings. The permanent exhibition presents the history of the Goślina Land. The room also houses a field station of the archaeological workshop of the Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy (Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica).
