About the museum
The Tyflological Museum has operated since the turn of 2011 and 2012 at the Special Education and Care Centre for Blind Children in Owińska, within the walls of a former monastery. The school management allocated two rooms of about 80 square metres, which were renovated and equipped with funds from the district council (Starostwo Powiatowe) in Poznań.
The collections were built up from tyflological maps and tactile graphics which for decades reached the centre from former European institutions for the blind, as well as from gifts collected during journeys to centres in Europe and around the world. Among them are sheets from the first book printed in Klein's script, his small printing press, early prints in Anna Adler's linear script, Parisian cubarithms, tyflographics by Martin Kunz, Braille writing slates and old teaching aids for mathematics and physics.
Each of the more than three thousand exhibits can be picked up. The museum serves pupils, students and researchers, and next to it is the Park of Spatial Orientation (Park Orientacji Przestrzennej).
