About the museum

The Izba Pamięci Józefa Wybickiego (Józef Wybicki Memorial Room), also called the Sala Tradycji (Tradition Room), is located in the Józef Wybicki Primary School in Parkowo, in the commune of Rogoźno. It opened on 29 September 2005, the birthday of the school's patron, thanks to the efforts of the historian Krzysztof Działo and the school's then headmistress Maria Cisowska. Previously, part of the collection had been shown in the school library. The room is on the second floor of the school building.

The exhibition presents memorabilia relating to the life and work of Józef Wybicki, author of the words of the “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego” (Polish national anthem), his links with Wełna and Parkowo, and material on the anthem, written in July 1797 in Reggio Emilia. Gifts from guests at the opening ceremony are shown, among them a watercolour of the palace in Margonin, a portrait of Wybicki and a bas-relief with the coat of arms of Rogoźno.

A large part of the exhibition is taken up by school chronicles, among them the oldest school chronicle from Jaracz, dating from the 19th century, and memorabilia of Napoleonic soldier Jędrzej Daleki, the most famous resident of Parkowo. Visitors are also drawn to a Bible from 1867, the visitors' book of the deputies of the Legislative Sejm from 1919, an exhibition on the Greater Poland Uprising, and a collection of replicas of Polish banknotes from the 18th to 20th centuries.
