About the museum

The Izba Pamięci Adama Mickiewicza (Adam Mickiewicz Memorial Room) is located in the Adam Mickiewicz Primary School in Budziszewko, in the gmina of Rogoźno. The poet stayed in the village in 1831 as a guest of Konstancja and Józef Łubieński, and on 26 September that year he was godfather to their four-year-old daughter. The school received Mickiewicz’s name in 1974.

The room was opened in 1983 on the initiative of history teacher Janina Ruta. Today it is looked after by Dorota Fundamenska. The exhibition is set up in a classroom where Polish language and history lessons take place.

The collection includes about 150 copies of various editions of “Pan Tadeusz”, including in foreign languages, and about 81 foreign-language editions of the poet’s works. There are also paintings, pastel illustrations for “Pan Tadeusz”, medals and plaques, sculptures of the poet’s head, and porcelain on Mickiewicz themes made by pupils. A separate section consists of souvenirs of Mickiewicz’s stay in Budziszewko, including portraits of the Łubieński family, a copy of the baptism record and a manuscript of a poem by Konstancja Łubieńska, found in the palace attic in 1983.
